Semi-Tubular Rivets
Semi-tubular rivets (also known as tubular rivets) are essentially the same as solid rivets, but with a shallow hole at the tip, opposite the head. This hole causes the tubular portion of the rivet (around the hole) to roll outward when force is applied. This reduces the amount of force needed for installation—tubular rivets require roughly ¼ the force of solid rivets.
Semi-tubular rivets are often the preferred rivet style for joints where movement is required (pivot points), because the rivet material only swells at the tail. Common applications for tubular rivets include light fixtures, HVAC ducts, electronics, ladders, and brakes, among many others.
Jay-Cee Sales & Rivet carries a huge inventory of semi-tubular rivets, in a variety of sizes, materials, and head styles. Follow the links below to find tubular rivets for your project, request a quote, or contact us to learn more.

What Length of Tubular Rivet Do I Need?
- View the diagram below
- Find the required body diameter (“D” dimension)
- Add the “Suggested Clinch Allowance” value to the total thickness of the material(s) you're working with. This will give you the approximate length you need.
Example: If you’re using a ¼” body diameter, add 0.157” to the your total thickness to find the approximate required length.
Note: Please check with our sales department to confirm your specifications. We are not responsible for errors in the data table above.
